Astounding Things
03:39
|
|||
I have done the most astounding
things in my short life
Sailed around the sun three times
on an old newspaper kite
And I don't know if you'll believe it's true
I've painted half the sky and called it blue
It was me who hung the stars
for lovers to get starry-eyed
Hung the moon inside a tune
And filled it with banana pie
I don't know if you'll believe it's true
I've taken half the world and called it you
I have seen a mountain walking,
talking as it strolled along
I can make the whole world laugh
by singing such a silly song
And I don't know if you'll believe it's true
I'd give it all away if just for you

Hole in the Sky
03:54
|
|||
An old mesquite tree came down
Yesterday, in my back yard
Now there's a blue hole in the sky
Where it used to be green
Time to plant another
Create some future shade
I'm too old to see that happen
But my kids might
Some questions will always go unanswered
Sometimes there is no right answer,
just another hole in another sky
Different day, different color, but a hole, just the same
Now here comes the foregone conclusion
A self-fulfilling prophecy, fulfilled
Your approach is careful and studied
Me, I go all in...
Neither one of us is wrong
We do what gets things done
And now there's a new one
Testing my resolve
Threatening everything I know
Some questions will always go unanswered
Sometimes there is no right answer,
just another hole in another sky
Different day, different color, but a hole, just the same

Chosen
03:13
|
|||
An artist is a world full of critics
A dreamer surrounded by cynics
A giver in a world full of takers
A maker in a world full of breakers
I am the author of every decision
I've ever made
No second chances, no flimsy excuses
I have become what I've chosen to be
A tree at a meeting of loggers
Sheep, lining up for the slaughter
A beautiful flower in a garden of ash
It's hard to become what you are
I am the author of every decision
I've ever made
No second chances, no flimsy excuses
I have become what I've chosen to be

Nothing Worth Repeating
04:26
|
|||
I've been waiting with the answer
for someone to ask the question
I'm not going to save the world
I'm not unwilling --- I'm just not the best one
It is not rational to expect
People to act reasonably
Nothing's ever as strange as the truth
Yet we expect the logical explanation
Talking to myself a lot these days
Sometimes I listen
But mostly I say
Nothing worth repeating
Maturity is over-rated
Often wasted on the old
Innocence is fresh and new
And often favors the bold
We underestimate the capacity
For savagery from the human beast
It's hard to outrun
The things that make us weep...
